I disagree. I think if a "better" MMO comes out, then people will jump ship - why? Because people are bored of it. There's huge crowds of people just as bored of WoW as many of us are of GW. They're looking for another game, but nothing good has came yet.

There's a lot of us.

I didn't even know that DX11 existed (lemme guess, doesn't work for XP too?), but... It'd depend moreso on graphics and gameplay than which direct x engine the game supported.

I'm pretty sure Aion doesn't use even DX10. And DX11 will come with retail Windows 7.

Whole thing is a pretty good read even if it is from a year ago. Also, maybe it's just me but I've been given the impression that most of the world is in a recession so the top priority on people's minds isn't buying a fancy computer to play the prettiest game out there. While it may not be the best reason it certainly contributes I would think. Besides, graphics come and go. Games I played on my Playstation once looked amazing, games on my PS2 once looked amazing, hell this:

Used to be amazing to some people.

Personally having played WoW, really not impressed with it at all. I honestly can't believe the whole 'enjoy the endgame content once a week' is as popular as it is considering you pay $15 a month for it. Imagine if FoW, UW, Urgoz, The Deep, and DoA could only be done once a week. Ugh, horrible.

All I can say is, I hope to God that NC Soft and Arenanet have the foresight into contiung to devolp GW so it wont be one of the ones to crash and burn. I think a huge selling point for GW is the fact that you dont have to pay a monthly fee.

There are no games, yet, for DX11. It's made for the Vista/7 platform. Hell, most games don't even have DX10 yet.

On a side note, get the free RC of 7. It's free and works till June of next year. Enough time to save your pennies for the release when it runs out.

XP works perfectly fine, there's no reason to switch. It's stupid they're making people buy new operating system just for new direct x versions...

I think that's just an indicator of either how bad online gaming is, how little the players will settle for, and how greedy that company is.

Thinking about it, the problem with most MMOs is really because they were based off of RPGs. And this really goes all the way back to D&D. Think about it. D&D is focused on PvE where the DM is supposed to make it enough of a challenge to give the players a hard time but not kill them... I mean most DMs don't throw 8 wizards with prismatic shield and meteor at you. Then there's the all important acquisition of better items in part because the game throws so many foes at you that can't be hurt by the normal stuff. Finally there is the monster power creep as well because after a level or two, it gets boring throwing level 1 goblins at players so then they need orcs and hobgoblins. Then they need to fight trolls. Then it's on to liches and dragons. Then they eventually own vahalla and have to start new characters because there's nothing else left to fight. Rinse, wash, and repeat.

Normal CRPGs can sort of avoid this because the story ends. However online games are essentially an extrapolation of the faults that began way back in the beginning and they don't have the outs that other CRPGs have.

I just like it because the last OS I had that worked this well was windows 2000. I just hope they don't screw it up somehow for the release.

MMO's will never have state of the art graphics as it would be suicide for the business model. When a type of game survives by attracting as wide a range of people as possible, limiting people on a basis of system specs - especially amongst the current economic crisis - is only going to lead to a unsuccessful game.

Besides, games that use graphics as a selling point are usually incredibly weak gameplay wise (cough crysis). Blizzard have consistently shown in the past that even dated graphics can create some of the most popular and long-lasting games in the market.

Largely a matter of opinion, but I'd still argue there are many games that exist with less than half the graphical requirements of Crysis that were much more intuitive or rewarding to play game play wise.

Actually, it did. A the very beginning the streets were filled with players. During rush hours half of the Hardlines would be down due to the incredible amount of people standing around it. SOE saved MxO by taking it over and killed it at the same time by ignoring it.

God, I miss the old days. MxO had such awesome Live Events where one was able to interact with key characters such as Morpheus, Niobe and Ghost. Instead of being scripted they were actually being played by hired people. What's more fun then gang banging the Assassin or having huge PvP battles?

Meh, we all saw it coming... I'll definitely be there for the final blow though.

But bugs/lack of content/any other problems MO had will kill ANY game, no matter how well it's been done.

That's true, GW has more than served its life span with me, ive been wanting a new one but all these ones seem to fall apart, and considering my comp would need a bit of upping I imagine on top of buying the things then the fees i just don't want to waste my money on something that won't work :/
